Southwest of Manchester, Sale sits in the southern River Mersey bank in Trafford, Greater Manchester. Its population has grown to over 100,000 according to 2016 census data. It has since been recognised as England's top 4 most desirable town to live in 2017. It used to be a rural township known for its cattle and crops. Urbanisation of Sale sparked around the time when Bridgewater Canal was built in the area in the1700s.

On April 1,1974 Sale became unparished following the abolition of its Municipal Borough status. Historically, it was a township. Today, the town's administration, planning, health and education is currently being handled by Trafford Council. The central commercial centre is located north of the town while the smaller commercial sites are found around Ashton upon Mersey and Sale Moor. The council office is located adjacent to the Robert Bolt Theatre and Waterside Arts Centre.

Sale Water Park is an exciting place to visit especially if you lie for the countryside feel due to its surrounding meadows, lakes, and woodland. It also hosts a cafe, a restaurant, and a water sport park. This park becomes bustling with sail boats and other water vehicles as it becomes the go-to-place during summers. You can then traverse the grassy pathway to either Jackson's Boat Ridge or River Mersey if you want it a bit relaxing.

Next up you can visit the biggest park in Trafford, the Longford Park. While you can find the Longford Athletics Stadium here, you can also engage in outdoor sports like boulder climbing, football, or tennis. Its huge 22 hectare area also hosts a community centre, a wildlife garden and even bowling greens. Young or old, you won't seem to run out of places to go and activities to do here in the Longford Park.

The Wythenshawe Park is a 100-hectare public space surrounded by beautiful woodlands, grasslands, and garden meadows. This park was recognised as a Greenflag Awardee in 2011 and 2012. Protected historical structures like the Statue of Oliver Cromwell, the Wythenshawe Hall, and the North Lodge are also located here. There's a handful of activities and events lined up for the entire year both for your learning and amusement. This is one park you cannot miss.

If you are more on the education and the arts, you have to check out the Waterside Arts Centre. It hosts both the Lauriston and Corridor Gallery, a plaza, a library, and the Robert Bolt Theatre. It has been the venue of choice for events, concerts and art exhibitions since it was opened to the public in 2004. The same year, the centre was recognised for its creative utilization was named British Urban Regeneration Association Awardee.
